Teaterklassikern Fröken Julie är en av August Strindbergs mest kända och spelade pjäser, och räknas som ett av de första naturalistiska litterära verken i Sverige. Kammarspelet skrevs 1888 och hade urpremiär i Köpenhamn 1889.

Fröken Julie är den unga kvinnan av börd somstannar hemma då hennes far greven åker på fest under midsommarkvällen. Handlingen utspelas i ett sörmländskt herrgårdskök. ”Fröken”, som hon kallas i pjäsen, har nyligen brutit upp från en förlovning. Kokerskan, Kristin, är i sin tur förlovad med grevens stiliga tjänare, Jean. En motvillig, skiftande passion uppstår mellan Fröken och Jean.

I Fröken Julie ställs brännande frågor på sin spets; mannens och kvinnans olika förutsättningar och möjligheter vid den här tiden, skillnaden och obalansen i makt mellan övre och undre samhällsklasser, och inte minst vilket handlingsutrymme som rådde och vilket ansvar man tillskrevs när det gäll-er att uttrycka sexualitet, beroende på kön och klasstillhörighet. If it wasn’t for the quality of the case, I’d probably return.
